1895 - 1935 The Missionary Years

During a period of prosperity from 1895 through 1905 the church was renovated and ten stained-glass windows were added.

The two chancel windows were memorials. One was to the "departed children of the church" and the other donated by Mrs. T. S. Gibbs in memory of Minnie, Anna, and Ella Gibbs. Three of the other windows were donated in memory of Minnie Avery, Charles Church, and George McCreedy.

In 1903, Mrs. Elizabeth H. Gibbs gave five hundred dollars for a Guild Hall. The building was of frame construction containing one large room with a small stage and two rooms in the rear. The completed cost was $1,400. This hall is still in use after many other renovations.

The record of St. Paul’s during the years 1906 through 1916 is mainly that of a succession of missionaries. In 1916 St. Paul’s was under the charge of Reverend R. S. Nash of Belding. No permanent priest was appointed to Greenville through 1935; the church was served by lay readers from Grand Rapids.
